my laptop is completely doolaley and im really stuck, it now wont turn on without the blue screen saying it has to shut down to prevent further damage.... icant turn it on, it feezes on teh windows loading page, it says something about runtime errors and debugging, and said something about uninstalling and reinstalling antivirus software, which i tried, but then it didnt do it properly and now it wont let me delete it nor can i turn it on to reinstall it....

ive done lots of virus and spyware checks, and it was a brand new hard drive at easter with no music and only the basic normal programmes downloaded, dont go on any funny websites or open emails that arent definitely ok.... dont know waht to do, is there anything i can try? it will turn on in safe mode, but i really dont have time to get to a computer shop in office hours for weeks....

This may well not do anything but its worth a try!

Have you tried doing system restore? i assume you have windows xp?

Unless of course you dont know what i mean, in which case ill explain what system restore is and what it does!

 

hi there, yes i did try 1 but it wouldnt work, it only allowed me to go back a few days, and the problem began before that, if i could save a couple of files i would just reset the computer, but i cant turn it on to do that... so im abit stuck!

I would take it to PC world for a full sytem check and they will probably bang a disk in and sort it, costs around Ł40 but will sort it, did 4 me nyway

 

or you could try taking the harddrive out and putting into another computer and see if you can access your files that way.

Otherwise if you can live without said files then you can just do a complete re-format and wipe the lot!

P.s, in future make sure your system restore is set so it creates restore points more often!

 

Didn't this happen to you before? I remember Jim Galbally offered to take it off you, try and save as much data (you had a uni project on there?) and then reformat it for you?

IMO, wipe it clean and reinstall windows on it
