When I try open a picture in windows picture and file viewer nothing happens also the preview of the picture does not work.

This is very annoying and any picture off the internet I have to view in paint.

I need this sorted asap.

Any help is much appreciated.

 

What happens if you right click the picture and select preview, or right click it, go down to open with, and then select picture and file viewer ?

 

Nothing at all.

I have to view them in paint through open with.

Really annoying I have bought another laptop but I still need it fixed.

Buying another pc was a bit extreme IMO. Can't see anything on microsoft's site, so i would probably go with the repair of XP

 

As Dan said, repair of XP is a good guess, as it does sound like a currupted process.....

In the mean time, try this;

Open any folder with pics in it (JPEG) and right click a pic and click OPEN WITH. Select INTERNET EXPLORER and tick the ALWAYS USE THIS PROGRAMME bit. When you double click a pic to open it, it will open in a normal IE window now.

I set all mine to do this as picture viewer don't let me access the copy button when you right click

Also, for folders that contain lots of pics, go to VIEW and select THUMBNAILS. Hopefully this will show up all your pics as little thumbnails so at least you get a little preview of what each pic is, before you open it

 

The thumbnails don't work either.
