Default Music organisation programme?

I am building a fairly extensive music MP3 collection on my PC as I continue to rip more and more of my CD's to my PC, and play my pusic from the PC rather than from my Hifi using the actual CD's....

But it's time consuming as I am a bit of a neat freak and like things to be organized and everything in the right place!

Basically, all my music goes on my second HDD, so as to maximize read times (WMP being run by the main HDD which has the OS on it, and the file thats being played coming from the second drive). All MP3's are in a MY MUSIC folder, and within that are tons of folders for each album etc (that WMP creates when it rips the album)

But when copying only one or two tracks, or downloading tracks, these just go directly to "General Population" in the MY MUSIC folder. From there I need to create a sub folder for them, move the MP3 files, then go into the properties and fill in the ID3 info....

What I was thinking is;

Is there a programme that is basically just an "interface" type thing, where every single MP3 is stored in one folder, with no subfolders etc, and instead of going to F: MYMUSIC/METALLICA/MASTER OF PUPPETS to look up a track to play, you open this programme or interface, and it lists all the music you have, and shows it in groups, by album/artist etc....???

Basically, it does all the work for you?

I know WMP does this to an extent;

But if there is anything wrong with the ID3 tags, it either shows up mulitple entries for the same album, or you load the album up using the drop menu, and it might miss a track or two cos the ID3 tag is wrong...

Plus, sometimes I just wanna pick one or two tracks, not play an entire album or play everything by that artist.

So an interface kinda like iTunes would be good;

As that shows all the music, track by track, in the album order, grouped together as albums, starting with the artists in alphabetical order. I could then just pic a song from that list and play it, or hightlight the entire album and play that, or make playlists (I pressume you could right click a track whilst another is play and there be an option for "add to current playlist" or similar, like how you can with WMP)

Now, can I download iTunes and use it for this sole reason? Are there any restrictions if I do this? Do I run a huge chance of loosing any of my music by installing this or uninstalling it later, and will I find my music becomes "Protected" in anyway, as I don't like the idea of a programme telling me I can or can't copy music I own, or what I can or can't do with it, etc...

Any cd that i've backed up in musicmatch jukebox get's it's own folder, and the id3 tag's are looked up from the net, any that arent' correct I manually edit.

All these folders in in my MP3 folder, along with the singles.

Winamp can enque directories, or single files, and sort by title, by filename, or by path and filename. Pretty easy to find a track in the list.

One day I will sit down and create subfolders for each genre of music like I have done for my music videos.

Yeah, mines similar to that Dan.... But I was just thinking of a programme that could list it all in one place, and it do the organization rather than me doing it. So if you looked "behind the scenes" all you would have is a folder with thousands of MP3 files, all in no particualr norder and no subfolders...

Kinda like an MP3 player. I copied 730mb of MP3 onto my phones memory card. When you look a the files on the memory card with the PC, it's just a shit load of MP3's all in one place. But, when you use the MP3 player on the phone, it works like an iPod and groups stuff together by artist, album etc....
