Sierra Sapphire Cosworth - 1990 4x4 Diamond White - £4900 *New Price*
Hi all,
The time has come to part with my beloved baby. So I'm trying to find it a loving new home, as it's killing me having to sell it. But needs must and the "toy" has to be the first!
I've owned the car since December 2011, and in that time I've loved it to pieces, as some of you know. I've serviced it, replaced loads of bits and only given it the best, Matt Lewis, CPE, Genuine Ford and not half arsed bodging. There is so much I would do to get the car spotless, but that's another reason I have to sell up, otherwise my Mrs will leave me and I'll have to live in the car as I will skint myself. This car has been my hobby and my daily for most of that time, as it is a joy to drive.
The car is a 1990 "G" reg 4x4, one of the early homologation models, so has the nice raven dash.
Car has 12 months MOT, 5 months tax.
The car has NEVER been in an accident and is totally HPI clear. The front wings still have the factory sealant on them (as Karl at NMS stated and the Cosfather!) and Cosfather also said that it has never been rear ended as it has the factory welds (the funny non-straight one) on the rear panel. So the car is straight and won't just snap in two! The floor has been plated in its life, and I have had the sills plated, as it was the floor to sill section that had a bit of tin-worm!
In the last 12 months I've replaced:
All 4 calipers with genuine remanufactured items from Graham at CPE
Genuine Ford water pump
3 spoke steering wheel
Ford Racing Gauges
New Cambelt (Gates belt) and INA pulley from Matt Lewis
New Tappets (INA) from Matt Lewis
Changed the wheels and tyres
Changed all fluids
Replaced the battery
Changed the front bottom Track Control Arms
New front wheel bearings (lost the receipts for this sadly!)
New track rod ends
Welding on the floor and the inner wing.
Loads of interior bits and bobs that were broken/cracked
Sure I've done other things, but I'm forgetful!
Specs:
The car is stage 3, with all the usual bits and bobs you'd expect.
Koni adjustable suspension
Full Mongoose stainless exhaust inc larger downpipe with 4" outward rolled tip
Grp A K&N Filter
Ported and gas flowed head
Inlet manifold spacer
Uprated -31 Collins actuator
MSD evolution stage 3 chip
Bosch 803 dark green injectors
3 bar map sensor
Ngk iridium plugs
Low compression pistons - 7.8:1
Multi layer Wrc steel headgasket
Grp A coil
2wd manifold
Larger T34 turbo with .63 AR turbine housing.
Full polybush kit
Bosch 044 uprated fuel pump -with rewire loom.
New fuel filter
Cobra cat1 alarm and immobiliser
Tracker
Car has 18x8 Old-style Compomotive MO6s with 215/35/18 Yokohama Parada Spec 2s with loads of tread left.
All pictures were taken this weekend, so are up to date.
Downsides - They all have some and I want to be honest, as I don't want anyone to be disappointed. Questions welcome!
Drivers rear door has been damaged in my work car park last year, and no one owned up to it! I have a brand new Ford rear door here that will go with the car, does need painting and fitting though, but it's a cheap simple task.
Both rear arches are on their way out, as they're bubbling quite a bit, but they're not the worst I've ever seen. Ideally need to be cut out and replaced.
Head lining is saggy.
Only one speaker works, cack wiring I think.
Passenger side Fog Lamp doesn't work, and has gone a bit crusty inside.
ABS is intermittent. It works sometimes, then may not work for weeks, then be fine again. Possibly a sensor or pick up rings, but the fronts seemed fine when the bearings were done.
Rust on the strut tops in the engine bay, which is common and easy to fix, but was supposed to be done with the door.
Front arches need rolling, as the passenger arch is fighting with my nice tyres!
I haven't yet wired up the oil pressure gauge or the water temp gauge, only the boost gauge. Not hard, just another job I haven't had time to do as it wasn't urgent!
Few marks and scratches, though it's 23 years old!
Spares:
Door side strips - If you look in the pictures you may notice that the side strips aren't fitted, these are off the car to go back on once the door has been fitted, but I just haven't had the time unfortunately.
Drivers Rear Door - as mentioned above
Power Steering pump
Cambelt Cover
Random heatshields and some other bits and bobs. Not a sausage what's in the box!
The car has no knocks, bangs or rattles, and the engine, gearbox and diffs are all in fantastic condition. The engine and gearbox were rebuilt 40,000 miles ago, with the block replaced (no idea why!) at a performance specialist in Scotland. The engine pulls like a train, is exceptionally smooth and quiet for a Cosworth and has never let me down. Any problems have been checked and sorted straight away, as I wouldn't drive a broken Cossie, try and keep it happy! Always used good oil, currently use Fuchs Titan Pro R 15/50, and genuine filters. Last replaced last summer, with a magnetic sump plug from MSD, all fluids replaced with genuine Ford coolant and gearbox and diff oils from Opie.
I have a huge folder full of receipts and history, with old MOTS and old Tax discs, though I wouldn't say it's full, though it is extremely comprehensive.
The car is currently 288bhp at 17psi, which is fun, yet safe so it hasn't been stressed to within an inch of its life. This could be ramped up if you want more, but I just enjoy it as is! I am an engineer and have a lot of mechanical sympathy, so try and take care of it. I have never done any full-bore standing starts and don't always drive with my right foot planted, as it's just a great, fun car all the time. Always get people commenting on it, as you just don't see many any more.
I am listing the car as-is, with the spares mentioned above for £4900, though I will happily listen to sensible offers. I will knock some money off if you don't want the Comps, as I have someone who wants them. It's a great car, and won't let you down. You could use this car every day and be happy with it, so if you'd like any more information please give me a call on 07875 236 344. Viewing is not a problem, car is located in Derby, close the A50 and A52, so long as you give me some warning so I can be in. Test drives are possible, but I do want proof of insurance and to see a driving license (sadly a few dodgy people ruin it for everyone!) and only genuine buyers please.
I have probably missed so much, but I have tried, though I haven't done this car justice.
This will make a fantastic car for someone, and I WILL be having another in the future, I have the bug and I haven't found a car I like more. Just unfortunately it's not my time right now.
Thank you for looking,
Alex

Lol, I always hate making an offer as I always feel like I'm being insulting. Ill have a think as its not the colour I want, but I know it wouldn't be an offer over £4500 with the standard wheels

This is true Alex lol.
Are the standard wheels lattices?
I need Justin Preston. He's end up getting you to give me money to buy the car, he's that persuasive lol

I think you are asking to much for it, take away the wheels and you basically have a sapphire that needs a full repaint, bodywork and a damn good clean.
Have you not considered tidying some of it up? Fitting the new door etc as I feel that would help it sell?
Not trying to be nasty by the way, just being honest!

As I said above, I really don't have the time or cash at the moment to get any of it done! If I did I probably wouldn't be selling up!
Really depends what you're after, I've used this car daily so it's bound to have a couple of blemishes. Only been 6 days, and already had a few serious enquiries. Time will tell matey!
Me too.... have had a some interest, just got to find the right buyer! The car is great, and I am sad to sell!
