Does anyone know what the bottom line is with this car? Instead of all the digs has anyone bothered to get in touch with the DVLA to find out what to do with a re-shelled car? Its not a ringer its just been reshelled! Once it is sorted with the DVLA it doesn't have to be called a S1 it is a S1 look-a-like.

Just get the car examined by the stolen vehicle squad, it does NOT have to automatically go on a Q plate, it could possibly stay on the same reg.
Get it looked at and it will avoid any confusion.
I bought an esc cossie that I had to have examined, similar circs and no Q plate (mind, I did end up loosing a few quid when I sold it).

yes dazc you are right it may not be a stolen car,but what has been done is illegal so i would break it or have the car checked myself to cover my own back,as 2-3 months down the line i dont wont someone knocking on my door asking about it.

Go back & read the bit I posted above from the DVLA website.
This car SHOULD be on a Q plate as per DVLA rules. It is not. It is (wrongly) on the original S1 id that belonged ot another car before the re-shell. Therefore illegal.

If i bought this id use it on the road. Whats different with this car having RS ID on a diff shell, to a LOT of the old skool cars having RS/MEX/SPORT/ id on 1.3L or 1.3 delux shells.....this is overlooked on old skools but not on this car....very odd...

Its ALWAYS done on Rally cars! It wouldn't bother me one bit...I'd buy it and either leave it as it is or put the correct XR3i details on it.

My mate did it years ago when we were young. He wanted an XR3i replica but couldnt be arsed to do it so put the plates from a 1.6l on a 3i...not stolen....had it years...
Also how many shelled old skool cars get tugged?

i averaged getting pulled 2 times a month in my old standard stage 2 rs turbo! they practicly stripped the car everytime? i wouldnt take the chance. I even got pulled while putting petrol in her! police these days hey!
