Shame that you restrict yourself to a 3i just because it fits in budget.

How about a 205gti? My MI16 cost me £1500 almost 5 years ago and i sold it for £1800

Bet there are plenty better cars there for £1800

i love xr3is blinding little cars, nothing really goes wrong with em and ford sold a shitload of em back in the 80s one of the best selling hot hatches of all time so cant be that bad, id love another as an everyday car but nice ones do still fetch silly money.

Stop biting at chop etc as they are winding you up and you are falling for it its only banter

Had an '88 reg XR3i bout 15 years ago, Served me well and never gave any major bother. Would gladly buy another good one if i had the space for it. Obviously not as quick as an RS turbo. Wonder how many of the XR3i knockers on here actually owned one!!

Good post mate. I had an 83 XR3i in the mid 80s until it got nicked in the early 90s and i would gladly have another tomorrow. Regarding quality, again i have no complaints about mine and the interior was excellent for its era.

Would rather have one over an old BMW estate any day!!

Can't believe the price is so high for these things! I bought mine 10.5 years ago and was in reasonable condition in red and first of the EFI's for 1500 quid! Insurance was the same for third party but 4K was good RST money back then. Car was great and paved the way for the cossie.

Thanks for the decent post's guys! Im glad other people like these cars to. We have been really unlucky every nice one we call up has sold the Mrs would love one like on carandclassic ad but they do seem to fetch a lot of money if mint. Im shocked how hard it is to find them as there seems to be more RS Turbo's around. If anyone finds any nice one's please let us know! Rich

In general XRs are way rarer than RSs now I'd say.... but £1200-1500 should get a you a tidy and original Mk4 if you look for a while.
No need for £4k unless you want something insanely clean though!

There does seem to be more RST's about and in that price range, but the problem is most of the RST's are rough around that price range, I like XR's and to put them down just because they are a "lesser model" is ridiculous, like I said the other day we probably wouldnt have some of the RS's we love today if it wasnt for the preceeding XR's.

hope you find one soon.

I had an F reg 3i which my dad bought for £700 in a stupid attempt to make me fall in love with it and not want an RS Turbo. As you can see that didn't work. I thrashed the living fuck out of for about 1 and a half years. Everytime I got in it I wished it was an RST, and every time I saw an RST I felt ashamed. I even raced an RST back from Southend and beat it with tears in my eyes lol. Broke numerous front exhaust pipes. Managed to break a couple of valve springs too. It had to have a lot of welding done to pass the final MOT and then it got sold for £650 and made way for a Mercury Grey RS Turbo. You've obvioulsy had experiance of these so there's no need for a lecture, just keep looking m8, for every shitter there is a Mint one hiding somewhere.

dont you just hate big mouthed key board warriors?
some people do come out with some funny replies but others just seem to make a hobby out of making them selves look like a C**T and generally ruining an otherwise great site... sod off and get laid or do somthing constructive with your life

on the subject of the 3i hunt i hope you do find a good one as they are getting rare i used to have an F reg XR3i in rosso red it was near enough mint but at the time when i sold it you could still pick them up for ten a penny so flogged it off for 250 needing slight attention to some rust bubbles on the passenger rear arch and a new dizzy cap, two years later and there suddenly going for 3 to 4 times what i sold mine for

Here's one to keep your eye on fella if you can stretch to it http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...=STRK:MEWAX:IT Good luck with the search and don't let the arseholes put you off. There seems to be a pattern emerging from the previous posts that anyone who's ever had one thinks they're great (me included) and anyone who hasn't just slags them off.
