Default Non Starter

Hi, hope some of you techno wizzards can help me!!!
I have a 1998 escort GTi, when i turn the ignition key (or press the starter button) there is no power going to the starter motor!! The dash lights are working fine, all other electrics are ok!! After a few minutes or so it will start as normal and run fine!! Its been doing that a few weeks, but now the fuel pump is not priming, the car has fuel in the tank. It has not started now for a few days (luckily i don't it yet) although when the engine turns over there is no fuel to start because the fuel pump is n't priming. Any ideas anyone???? Is it a battery earth fault, fuel pump (do they just stop working without any warning??), Starter motor, fuse box??? Anybody else had a similar problem and sorted it???
Cheers for any help

Trev

Has the fuel pump inertia switch self activated? Located behind the drivers footwell cover. Push the red button down on the top of it.

ino the battery to cables are a weak point as have changed a couple if you have a multimeter you could check the resistance in the cables and see how much voltage the starter is actualy getting also check the fuel pump relay make shore you can hear it click .

hope any of that helps

There appears to be no live to the fuel pump!!
Checked this by tapping into the wires to fuel pump and checking with a mutimeter, igntion on, nothing, ignition off nothing! That was on the viloet/Orange wire and the white wire, there are 2 other black wires which
i am thinking are earths!! There is aclick from the relay and the engine turns over, battery seems to be ok!! Is this a PATS problem?? If so. what is the cure?? Thanks for any help.

you could try tracing the fuel pump wires back as far as poss and see where it is losing the power also try another pump relay just incase ok

hope it helps
