A new Pirelli ( and probably most brands ) these days would likely be all cracked and need replaced in 6 months anyway lol

Some older tyres did seem made better than todays stuff. Although if true, modern rubber may well have made a difference.

Lots of variables either way, but the bottom line is still the same. Car/chassis overall technology does make the modern stuff faster and undoubtedly safer for any given power, and likewise braking probably a lot better.
Something like a 100-0 test would have been interesting too.
