That is true according to the road tests. There was a hotter cam option on top of that as well to give a little extra ( twin 40s took care of the fuelling ).

It's interesting how people will 'perceive' the value of a car. The fact is,despite the badge being 'only a Vauxhall' it was a homologation car and there aren't loads of them left. I'm
sure a realistic price would be a lot less than this was bid up to but a Porsche or Ferrari badge on the front wouldn't really see anyone blinking an eye about the price.
Case in point, back in the 80s a friend bought one of those late 60s 2 litre Sportomatic 911s. They were really cheap, one of the cheapest ways into a 911.....but omg, it was awful, 130 bhp on a good day, just about broke 10seconds to 60, the gearbox was shocking and being an old 911 it handled like a pig wearing rollerskates. He had plans to fit a later engine and proper manual box, better suspension etc etc but got disheartened as it couldn't keep up with a 2-litre rwd Escort. Came to sell it and he literally had to give it away. Fast forward 35years and an original low-mileage ( not surprised at the low mileage as it wasn't something you'd want to take out for a drive like a current 911 or Boxster ) one sold for a quarter of a million. Showed to me that a badge is no indicator of on road ability or driver appeal. For sure that dancing Geman horse badge has a lot of kerb appeal .......
