Right, it's all done.

The bottom pic is obviously correct, what threw me was the fact that I was having to pull the tensioner toward the front of the car I assumed it was moving forward, however, the pivot point is behind the pulley so therefore the pulley is actually moving up away from the belt as it should, I was not able to see which way it was moving while applying the force needed.
