Got a belt that seems too loose even though it appears to be the same length as the one that's come off.

The new belt is a Gates 6PK1218

There looks to be only 4 pulleys for the belt to go around but I can't even find a diagram on Google, the only ones on there have 6 or 7 pulleys, I can only assume this is the wrong belt, am I right in thinking this?

Did you make a note of the belts route around the pulleys before removing the old belt?

I didn't as the belt snapped but it looks pretty obvious the crank shaft, water pump (I think) and alternator all have the grooves and the tensioner doesn't, 2 are at the bottom, the other at the top and the tensioner just below the top but I can't even find the same setup anywhere on Google.

The belt is a Gates 6PK1218 which is the right one according to ebay. That's about the only thing I've been able to find out on the interweb.

Do not trust ebay for part numbers i was caught out by this a few months back my belt was too short.

Crankshaft lower left, aircon to the right of it, alternator above aircon all should have ribbed pulleys. The tensioner should be smooth above the crankshaft pulley so it should only go on one way, you might have the wrong belt if it won't go on.

Where can I find a part number for the belt to confirm and where can I find a diagram for the pulleys and belt as at the moment as far as I'm concerned my engine does not exist.

Yes that's correct, I will have to check where I got the belt even though a thin part of the original belt survived and is the same length as the new one.

If your car has aircon there is only one diagram I've checked through every engine code for a 2l tdci focus from 2010.

Yes it has air con, the only diagrams I can find have 6 or 7 pulleys but obviously it's not rocket science as to which way it's routes around mine, the shop even took my reg number for the belt part number.

I've just figured it out in my head, dull as fuck sometimes.

I think I was putting the belt around the front side of the tensioner when it should have been going around the back.

My brother just said we were routing the right way so I take that back.

The only other thing I can think is does the tensioner move forwards and back, I was pulling it towards the front of the car from underneath but if it moves the other way then I can route it the other side.
I've not got the car to hand as it's down my brothers so just trying to think of everything before I have a look in a bit.

It is the right belt apparently, gonna have another look today and am hoping that what I've said above is the case.

The tensioner will be more than likely spring loaded.

Yep, that's how they work, I'm wondering does it apply tension both ways as I routes it the way shown in the top pic but is it possible to route it the bottom way, if not I'm stumped.

Right, it's all done.

The bottom pic is obviously correct, what threw me was the fact that I was having to pull the tensioner toward the front of the car I assumed it was moving forward, however, the pivot point is behind the pulley so therefore the pulley is actually moving up away from the belt as it should, I was not able to see which way it was moving while applying the force needed.
