My daily is a 1.4 sxi astra, had it from 40k miles, has always chewed through oil mainly on longer journeys, top it up every week, doesn't smoke and drives as good as it can for an astra, on shorter journeys the oil filler cap gunk up with creamy sludge pointing to head gasket but that seems to be fine and uses no water.
Timing chain was rattling at 40k when I got it, pretty poor but had it done and it's been fine since, engine lights on now grrrrrrr
It's been reliable but not the best car I've owned as a daily.
