I've been through all this at work recently and the boss got his insurance guy to come round and discuss how much we had spent on our tools etc and he upped the policy to cover all the tools. If the boss didn't want to insure our tools then we can take ours home and have them covered on our home contents policy and he can spend the £30k out on a toolset each for us to use
