It's horses for courses, i personally wouldn't entertain something like omex now I've fitted the cosworth management, there are more tuners with many years experience of working with the system that can map it, also the system uses all ford parts so if your anywhere and start having problems the sensors are readily available, I can't recommend it enough, smooth with great power delivery, but that's my opinion
I agree with you, my 450 bhp 2wd Saff runs an L8 ecu , has wasted spark ignition, plus new engine ,fans and fuel pump wiring looms, so it has a more advanced system than the original and does the job really well.
What big advantages would an Omex or similar ecu make?
