One thing that's puzzling me. The injectors on my engine that's fitted now. Are loose I can wiggle them when I wiggle the fuel pipes. I'm assuming their not meant to be like that are they
You have assumed correctly!
I had this on my old ERST, caused a poor idle amongst other things.
On mine, the plastic sleeves that hold the injector down had gone brittle and started breaking up. But also the retaining clamps had rusted and broken. I just bought a new set of sleeves, o-rings and retainers and it was right as rain.

Very simple to replace, I think the injector even stayed on the pipe.
