right peeps have been having loads o probs with the rs

i was trying to check to see if the coil/ignition is working

so i was advised to connect a lamp (bulb with 2 wire ) to the green wire to the coil and then to the negetive of the battery. when you crank the engine it should flash, but mine in on constantly when the ignition is on and when you try to crank the enging it gets flashes brighter but does not go on and off like a indicator would is this right or im i missing summit
