You're highly unlikely to see any oil leaking through the seals unless it's under pressure.
oil at the seals should have minimal pressure, the drain is large enough for this to be normal.
fill it with oil, spin the shaft by hand and feel for play.
you could block the drain and blow in the oil inlet, listen for leaks when filled with oil.
otherwise get it tested by a professional.
