The problem lies with, when you realise that you want to go faster. It happens very quickly generally and your options will be pretty limited unfortunately. I'm sure you'll be able to have fun in it but I would think you'll soon get fed up with letting cars pass you. Perhaps look at other cheap cars as a base instead or go for a cheap RWD for more fun.
i agree with the power thing. you will feel the urge for more power and it happens to us all. but if what you have is your only option then the focus to me is the best handling car for the money. even with a 1.8 though if you gut it and get it handling spot on you will have a great time.
