I had a spark too, wasn't sparking at the right time , remember the unit is replacing the points and condesor and now replicate their job including correct dwell etc etc, mine behaved liked a fucked condesor like it had a miss on every cylinder as you tried to rev it up, but ticked over fine, new unit fixed it, then the new power spark coil died , replaced it with a decent make coil never ran so good
