Barn find XR3i turbo starting problems
Hi all, Finally been able to lay my hand's on the car in question (1990 xr3i Efi turbocharged) but after allot of frustrating hours still no joy,
here's where I have managed to get; I refreshed all of the fuses put on a good battery, Because the fuel tank had been removed I wired a fuel pump direct to the fuel rail and also direct to the battery on a independent switch, placed the pump in a jug full of petrol turned on the pump and tried to start the car.... Nothing happened. "But" there is a thin brown wire that connects to the battery, I'v tested this wire and it put's out a low voltage of 2.3v... If I connect this wire to the + side then I seem to get a spark from the plug when tested out of the car against the manifold but still no firing from the engine, If I connect this wire to the - side then a relay can be heard clicking first on then clicking again when the ignition is switched on but no spark, I have also removed the fuel rail to see if any petrol is being ejected on turnover or ignition, "But" the thin brown wire when touched onto the - side seems to operate the injectors and they eject fuel, only buy touching and releasing the brown wire the injectors will operate.....I know the car did run the guy that I had it from started it last year the same way with no petrol tank fitted he said he did exactly as I am doing (I seen it running) now a year later I seem to be struggling...... Am I missing something here ?, If anybody could shine a light on the whole situation the help would be greatly appreciated,
I love this car and its breaking me that I carn't start the engine
