it's tempting to jump on the bandwagon but the fact of the matter is that chases endanger the public and if these tossers will break into houses to steal the cars then the police chasing them is likely to goad them into taking even bigger risks to get away, especially if they're more than likely cracked out of their faces. Despite the cost the answer is the helicopter rather than chasing on the road, there is simply no escape and they can be safely ambushed using spike sticks or road blocks without realising what they're in for.
I'm in no way saying the cops should do nothing, I can understand they also have a duty of care towards the general public not too cause any more danger through chasing hardened career criminals who clearly have absolutely no regard for the safety of others.
The point I do agree with is that there must be some old school boys up there who could dish out some street justice to these scallies - similar to the IRA tar/feather & kneecapping (or 6 packing) drug dealers back in the day, that would be a significantly more effective deterrent IMO.
