Default -15 degrees and engine workings....

Just came back from short (40km's ) ride in my Cossie on this freezy wether and found out special peculiarity. My Cossie always did spit flames from exhaust from time to time but today in this cold wether each time I go faster and change gear at 4k+ rpm and more then 1bar it just does big BANG and there is small flash in the night behind me. Is this some kind of engine menagment peculiarity in this wether? or is it something to do with exhaus being very cold? Or what?

By the way - even on very clean tarmac there isn't much grip when -15 even on winter tire ;-/
