Swapped the engine in my efi 3i and I'm pretty sure I have ignition problems

I have fuel at rail I have a spark but its not turning over its like the timing is out but in runs crank position sensor if the sensor was faulty would I still get a spark from the plugs?

Can I just use a universal cps if its the right length I'm rely struggling to get my head round it
