unfortunately there is no cheap way, my lad is 17 and passed his test last september,
the cheapest we could get at the time was £3100 on a 1.0 lupo worth about 1200 quid ,
and that was with me and the misses on it as named drivers ,
they are even whacking the price up if you buy and insure it with him as a named driver , they call it fronting , it's a bit of a grey area really as they cant really prove who is actually the main driver.
come this september when he has 1 years no claims we are going to try admirals multi car policy for all our cars ,which will hopefully be cheaper for him but still allow him to collect his own no claims
