Hi, as you can tell im a newbe to this site so please go easy! Im an ex mechanic from Kent and still play around with cars, my current toy is a 1932 Ford Hot Rod with a V8 Rover engine and auto box. But the rear axle is from an early Cortina based P100, which is where my problem starts, or finnishes as the rest for the car is now sorted. Ive had the car for around 6 years but reacently fitted some lower profile rear tyres which have thrown the gearing way out as its a 4.6 cwp ratio. I want to fit a 3.09 from a Capri, but the firm thats fitting it are having a problem with the bearing size. The ones in my casing are smaller than the Capri unit so dont fit. Is it possible to machine out the diff casing to except the bigger Capri ones? Its not an option to fit a Capri axle as the P100 one is modified with extra brackets etc to fit my car, also its 5 stud not 4.
Lots to ask i know but cant seem to find the answer. Thanks for your help.
