In my opinion as a lighting engineer the optimal colour temp is around 4300k, but these can be difficult to obtain for retrofit applications. I would not recomend going anywhere over 6000k as at this point they are a bit too blue and 8000k upwards are about as much use as a snooze button on a fire alarm
