+1 on axle play, majority of the people who use them properly run solid rear mounts, does away with a couple problems apparently.
I'll look into the solid rear mounts, if it's a cheap upgrade then it'd be worth doing.

This has done 122k and doesnt use a drop of oil or water, its bog standard though, no lowered suspension or exhausts. I did read somewhere they reckon they loose torque if you fit induction kits, mine seems to have a very healthy induction noise as standard with a standard filter so can only imagine an inductuction kit must be really really loud.
I'd more than likely bin the induction kit off, not a huge supporter of open cone stuff anyway if I'm honest.. shouldn't be hard to find a standard airbox and get an uprated panel filter for a few quid.
They aint worth much, make sure the cambelts been changed and even for peace of mind do it again as they are very very common for snapping way before they are due for renewal times as per book.
What sort of cost will your average mechanic take to do a cambelt service on one of these mate?? ...since I've read a wee bit about them and would be shit scared of the one on the car letting go on me at some point.

How come you rate them higher than the 172 then Spiky?? ...from what I've read, most people seem to really rate the 172 Clios so keen to see what you prefer about the 306.
