Default timing up cam trigger - please help

Hi

I've got my hands on a cam trigger kit, and have just handed over my cam to be machined.

I have 2 questions I hope to get help to

I've read this guide by Richie
https://passionford.com/forum/techni...r-to-a-yb.html

but about timing it up i would like to hear if it is just a matter of timing up everything and making sure the phase sensor in the distributor is on the mark, and then installing the modified cam, with the trigger pointing up to the sensor
and after installing the cam, i can remove the distributor.

or is is simply matter of looking at the timing mark on the inlet cam pulley, and just turning the cam trigger lobe 90 degrees clockwise?

Also how do I check clearance in the best way, between the trigger and the sensor?

many thanks
