I'd drop in a fruity MFactory final drive if you're not planning to boost the engine at any point... no point being geared for 160-170mph (at a guess?) unless you can get there without holding it on WOT for long periods. I'd gladly sacrifice a willy waving top speed to gain more useful improvements through the gears.
While the box was out, I'd also drop in an LSD and uprate the clutch/flywheel.

The gears are pretty close anyway, you gain 20mph per gear which is about right IMO. Any closer I reckon you'd lose time on the shifts.
If you don't want to go turbo i'd save the money and put it towards a new car. Spending 500-£2000 on mods won't make a lot of difference at all.
