As a general procedure (mondeo shouldnt be too different):

Remove the battery (just to be safe)

Then remove the drive shafts, probably have to remove the lower ball joint to pop them out. also its best to undo the drive shaft bolts while the car is on the ground.

then remove the gear linkage and starter

then you want to remove any cables clips or wires attached to the box (take a close look as if you miss one you could brake it once lowering the box out)
not forgetting the clutch cable or slave cylinder depending on what you have.

now you want to remove the mount(s) or it may have a cradle (ive not done one on a mondeo)

now you want to start taking out the bell housing bolts (i tend to leave the 2 top ones in till last as you dont want it dropping while your under the car)

once you have done all that check there is nothing else bolted on, AC, PAS pipes ect

then it should be ready to come out if you using a ramp ideally you will have something to rest the box on if not you could always do the final part on the ground with a trolly jack.
