Does your EGR have 'wires' coming out of it, or is it purely mechanical, i.e. just with a vac hose? Or one of those odd 'hybrid' ones the X-Types seem to have sometimes, which are both mechanical and electrical.

If it's the former, then after a couple of hundred miles it will come on... or your EML light is broken
