As above, been offered a set of alloys with no tyres, and wont be til next month I get tyres so was wondering if a tyre fitting centre can check alloys for straightness/buckles without having to have tyres on?

Yep. They put mine on to show me a buckle/flat spot on one of mine, which surprised me as there were no signs it was buckled before. After the tyre was fitted and balance you wouldn't know it was buckled either.
You could always just run it down a slight slope or something. Any obvious buckle should stand out a mile.
