technically you can here in self defence problem is proving it in a court of law to avoid prosecution.
its pathetic here, someone can force their way into your home and until they threaten you or lay a finger on you, all you can do is dial 999. to grab them and stop them is assault. of course if they touch you or threaten you then self defence laws apply but you have to prove it and these days with the CPS your word that a scum bag threatened you is no longer enough. the fact he shouldnt have been there counts for nothing. it is merely the alleged assault that is considered.
