i see what your saying about less restriction but that isnt that true , i cant seem to find the detailed post about the ams evo with 1000bhp when they did a very indepth post about designing inlet manifolds , how they did back to back testing on everyone they made , they looked at tappered runners , different angled runners , different sized runners , different lenghted runners , many thrumpet shapes and sizes , and volume capacity of the inlet and you would think that the largest inlet on a 1000bhp engine was the best (not silly oversized either) but it simply wasnt the case as each different component gave the engine more and more power as they fine tuned it , there was so many factors including fueling we could talk for hours and hours. on my old t34 zetec turbo engine running around 300bhp at 19 psi with a rs1800 ho inlet ian said that his inlet should see it add another 30+ bhp on my engine with the map tweaked to keep the fueling up to scratch and with no other mods and people may say yeh right but carismadaves fiesta turbo was the same spec as mine but with ians custom inlet and that made 355bhp at the same boost. like you said anyone can fabricate something and if there willing to put the time and effort in they can clearly build something that works , but dont think that ford stuff is great every part thats used on these cars is built for comfort , economy , and designed for the power output of the the orginal engine (130bhp) fiesta turbo , rs1800 inlet etc etc thats why they will only reach certain power levels then it the next stage.

I get what your saying Paul but as you said Ams done a great deal of testing on each inlet they designed and im sure Ian has spent enough time
tweaking his. im just saying a lot of stuff on sale for rs's and cosworths is just shiny shit with no testing and no proven results. And you'd be better off saving your money and buying products with proven results.
And i know from a personal point as at the min as im redesigning the inet on my zetec turbo capri and spending a lot of time working on plenium size inlet runner length and even flow to each cylinder. this is to replace a manifold bought off ebay to get it running which is basically a 3 inch steel pipe with 40mm steel runners about 50mm long no inner trumpets nothing
