As time is tight i want to remove as little as possible from the engine bay. A friend of mine tells me he just uses wet towels over the engine componets near wear he is working (grinding and welding) however I am usure about this advice especially for welding! how do you guys minimise the risk while grinding and welding around the engine bay?

Hi mate, depends on exactly where you are welding really. I would remove anything that could get damaged by the heat (ie something on the other side of where you are welding) and anything plastic nearby that might get damaged with the heat. Make sure you cover up as much as you can when welding or grinding, things like windscreens / paint etc will end up shagged if you get sparks on them, and do all the safety stuff like well propped car, battery off, no petrol leaks etc nearby.
