i ve welded god knows how many sierra diffs for stock cars,driftin etc and i ve never had to remove it from the casing! just drop the diff down by removing the diff mount, take the back plate off, clean out as much of the oil as possible, takes about 1 hour start to finish.
i would nt recommend it for a road car tho
if it was for a road car i would remove it to stop splatter and slag from getting into the diff and causing premature wear of the gears and bearings. Maybe ok for occasional use in a stock car, but for a road car i would be a bit cleaner about the job.
