The cambelt has snapped and taken the engine out. ...car was recovered to a garage who have quoted £1500 to repair, but guy said that he'd forget the £300 recovery (3 miles, tops) and inspection charge and give the guy £300 for the car.

How much is the going rate for a replacement engine for these?

How much is the car worth in good working order again?? ...details are: Silver, 2003 '52' plate, great condition, 45k miles, history, full MOT, xenons, climate etc etc. Car was minor damage CAT D about 3 years ago, repaired by approved bodyshop and it is in brilliant order throughout.
