The short answer is that yes you do need 2 boxes.

However, you could cheat this and run Component + Audio cables to your bedroom (assuming your skyHD box has component out). that way you would get full HD upstairs and downstairs (assumign downstairs on HDMI) without the issues associated with long HDMI leads.
