Some nice clear piccies there, you can get 12V led's in any colour also, that have built in resistors, not really any more expensive, you could also use RGB, red/green/blue led's 1 led that does these colours at the flick of a switch if someone wanted.
Must admit I've always liked blue myself as well, looks a good job, the resistor is there to drop the voltage to the diode, most are between 2.1 and 3V without resistor, depends on colour, some colours VERY expensive due to the gas used.
