I used to play the Clarinet years ago ¬_¬, that tought me how to read music and all.

Like Pardeep said: 'Best way to learn is to learn to play what you want to play and you'll start to learn more and more. When you start to learn your chords, you'll realize that most the stuff you've been playing is whatever chord you maybe learning.'

Thats what I did learnt some easy stuff when starting out, then started to link the theory to it, you realize you've learnt alot of the basic theory just from playing your favorite tunes.
