The purpose of heatwrap is 2 fold, its keeps underbonnet temperatures down by keeping the heat inside the exhaust. Saying that it radiates the heat elsewhere is not correct at all!
Hot gasses flow better than cold
Not quite so important on NA cars compared to turbo but still worth doing if you have the time and the patience.
You have to be careful to get an even coverage though as uneven wrapping can cause localised hotspots leading to premature failure of the exhaust material.
If you plan on spending £10 on exhaust wrap I really wouldn't bother as you get what you pay for and I would ONLY buy Thermo-Tec wrap!!
