More likely stem seals than engine wear, depending on how it's been treated as bottom end on these engines are good for big miles.

Easiest way to tell is when the smoke occurs, if it happens on overrun then likely to be stem seals or when first started up, if it is smoking all the time then suspect bore/piston or ring wear.
