I researched 996's before buying my e92 m3. The only ones I would touch were the dry sumped ones, which were, 996 turbo, 996 gt3, 995 gt2. The others all seem to suffer from random and catastrophic engine failures. Not sure why the wet sumps have the problem when the dry sumped ones dont but that is the case going by all the stats.

Good advice, one of friends is Porsche mad and apparently the 3.4's aren't very realible. The GT3 uses the same engine found in the GT1 which is bullet proof.
Your getting on for 40K then though!
