Nearly right, they have to post within 14 days, but are not limited to 6 months to bring a offence at all, so long as notice is given of a offence they have 3 years.
I went to court on 18/11/09 for an offence that was commited on 12/12/08, yes nearly a year, and it was thrown out due to identity of driver problems, driver was wearing a balaclava!!
