I rang a place in Birmingham (repuatble car audio centre) and they were complete idiots about it trying to convince me that it was a major operation and please bring it in and dont attempt it yourself i dont think halfords would do it either lol. i'll try the yellow pages at the weekend i think, thanks.

thats fair enough. i was thinking of telling them it was fitted already and i dont have the certificate, but then rememberd i'd had the car 3 years and shoudl've noticed it before now but yeah, the ai606 is the one i was looking at. something reasonably competent that goes bleep bleep when i press the button etc, more a visual deterrent as much as a safety element.
