Unless they are a lot smaller in size compared to the Capri 2.8i one's it wont work, catches on the 24v sump and wont line up correctly with the bolt holes in the bellhousing.
I've still not got this problem figured out yet !
Have kind of left the mechanical side of the car for a while and been concentrating on the bodywork but am still after the correct info regarding the exact starter to use !
So far i have tried the original Granada 24v starter = slow to crank engine,
Capri 2.8i starter= slow to crank engine (after a lot of grinding to get it to fit the hole!)
A known good starter from a 2.9i XR4x4 with 24v engine fitted against a MT75 box= slow to crank engine,
Brand new Granada 24v starter= still fucking slow to crank over !!!!
I know for sure its not a wiring problem, have tried heavy duty jump leads direct onto the starter and still slow cranking, starter spins nice and quick when you unbolt it and put power directly onto it, fit it in the hole and its slow cranking !
Engine spins over with a socket on the crank pulley easy enough, feels like a good amount of compression without there feeling like its tight or has a problem internal.
Car is gettin painted in couple of weeks so will be back at it then to try and sort this bastard problem out once and for all !
Someone has told me to try the flywheel from a 2.9i XR4x4 Sierra as they are different to the Capri 2.8i, am either gonna try and get one of them or else try skimming the rear face of my 2.8i one so it sits further away from the starter as seems like the starter is going in too far and possibly jamming on the starter ring on the flywheel !
