not 100% true - LCD's use more power when the image is darker as more pixels are energised. it is marginal compared to the power used by the backlight, processing and wasted in the power supply.

and i still disagree that they're shit hot....yes they look impressive, but its all very artificial in an attempt to get around the intrinsic problems with LCDs...

It'll be nice when some large format OLED's come out - very very low power consumption, good contrast, sub-ms response time....currently suffer from burn in quite badly though.
