too much of anything in a short period of time is harmfull to you in you consume it in large enough quantaties, even the air you breath

it's all to do with diluting the body and if you are sweating it out without replenishing it then you are losing something else along the way

and it's not even consuming a larger amount of water, it's the ingesting it part that causes the problems
