Presumably the 4x4 are different to 2wd judging by your piccie, the 2wd have a groove in the centre of the bearing carrier, ie the bearing sits in it's own housing, but your outer race is directly on the head, maybe kit was to do both 2wd and 4wd ?

Yes its quite a bit different compared to 2wd and the workshop manual that contains a very good pic of the 2wd camshaft and how to fit it dont have a pic at all over the 4wd.
I think both 2wd and 4wd use a o-ring but they differ in size.
