Maybe removing iTunes and then reinstalling it might help? Or have the iPhone turned off, plug into computer, open iTunes, then turn on phone.

Mine did this after I accidently turned off the autostart for iPhone/iTunes connection. All sorted itself after a fresh download of iTunes.
